Everybody struggles-My experience as an outreachy intern.

Welcome back to my intern adventures at Oppia! Let me pull back the curtain and share the details of what's been going on. Ready? Let's roll!

Being an intern at Oppia has provided me with an incredible opportunity to create effective and engaging science lessons for kids. As a lesson curator, my primary goal is to create lessons that are effective in passing value and at the same time intuitive for the learners, ensuring the kids have a great learning experience while going through the lessons. However, these past two weeks have presented me with a series of challenges and valuable learning experiences. In this blog post, I want to share some of my struggles and how I am actively dealing with them.

  1. Finding A Balance- Making Lessons Fun, Not Too Much, Not Too Little: One big challenge I'm facing is making lessons that are just right – not too long and boring, but not too short either. It's a bit like walking on a tightrope. I need to figure out how much to teach so it's not too much or too little, I want the learners to be excited, not overwhelmed. Tricky, right?

  2. Tackling Time Troubles: My Daily Puzzle:

Every day, I set a mental goal of what I intend to achieve in terms of my tasks. I guess maybe I'm still yet to figure out how much I can actually achieve because I have not been able to meet my daily targets. Lesson creation is a mix of brainstorming, research, and scripting which requires a lot of time, before you know it, it's nighttime already. How do I make every second count? Time management is not just a challenge; it's a daily negotiation with the ticking clock.

  3. The Feedback Wave: Lots of Corrections, Lots of Learning:

Ah, the sea of feedback—waves of corrections, reviews, and suggestions from mentors. It's a testament to the commitment of the Oppia mentors and community to excellence. Yet, it's also a challenge not to feel overwhelmed. Each comment is actually very valuable, but how do I digest it without feeling like I'm drowning? Turning the feedbacks and reviews into stepping stones to improvement is a skill in itself.

So, how am I dealing with these challenges?

I've learned to embrace the balancing act. It's okay not to have all the answers, and it's perfectly normal to feel the weight of time constraints. Each piece of feedback is a stepping stone, not a stumbling block. This journey is about growth, and challenges are the milestones.

More updates coming your way. Remember, it's not just about reaching the goal; the journey matters too.

Cheers,

Success Oghogho 🚀
