I’m excited to share my journey with the Oppia community, especially for those of you who, like me a while back, may not be familiar with this amazing community. If you’re considering whether to dive into Oppia community, let me guide you through my experiences and shed light on the community.

Who are the people in the Oppia community?

Oppia is a diverse community of passionate individuals from various backgrounds, all united by a shared goal: providing quality education to underserved communities globally. From educators and content creators to developers and translators, there's a role for everyone in our community.

The Problem We're Tackling: Educational Inequality

At the heart of Oppia's mission is its online learning platform—Oppia. This platform employs story-based lessons and specialized features to engage the most underserved students globally. By creating a fun and effective learning environment, Oppia addresses the unique needs of those who may not have access to traditional educational resources.

My Project: Crafting Engaging Science and financial literacy Lessons

At Oppia, I've been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at creating an inclusive and effective learning environment. Here's a glimpse of the impactful work I've contributed to:

1. Creating Engaging Science Lessons:

   • Crafting science lessons designed to be both effective and engaging for children worldwide.

   • These lessons, once published on the Oppia website, will serve as valuable resources accessible to kids globally.

2. Maths Practice Questions:

   • Developing practice questions for mathematics lessons to reinforce learners' understanding.

   • These additional questions serve as tools for learners to practice and master the skills taught in the lessons.

3. Implementing Site Changes:

   • Actively participating in implementing changes on the Oppia learning site, incorporating graphics and lesson modifications.

   • Ensuring that reviews and feedback from both volunteers and learners are seamlessly integrated to enhance the user experience.

4. Multilingual Lesson Translation:

   • Translating lessons from English to Nigerian Pidgin English.

   • By providing translations in local languages like Nigerian Pidgin, I aim to break language barriers for under-resourced children, facilitating a smoother learning experience.

5. Pedagogical Review of Lesson Fixing Documents:

   • Collaborating with fellow volunteers to review documents related to lesson fixes.

   • My role involves offering a pedagogical perspective, ensuring the quality of lessons aligns with effective learning strategies.

   • Engaging with kids from the target audience during the contribution stage, collecting feedback on lesson challenges to improve overall user experience.

What Excites Me: Making Learning Impactful

What excites me the most is the opportunity to contribute to impactful learning experiences for children worldwide. Seeing the direct results of our efforts in the form of engaging lessons and positive feedback from learners is truly rewarding.
